When the pose is symmetrical as this I pay close attention to the structure of the body and the geometry of the outer shapes, I try to be very precise with the alignments that connect the whole picture together.

Sketches of the day, a girl sleeping in an interior setting and a small portrait that I sketched outside under the gloomy skies of LA (that almost never happens), the figure sketch's got an impressionist feel to it, makes it more romantic I guess.

More values then lines, I choose the approach based on the lighting conditions mostly, often lines can be more descriptive then elaborate drawings with plenty of shading, in this case a tonal method was needed.

Not until I finished this sketch I realized that it's reminiscent of Rembrandt's many self portraits, it wasn't conscious at all and I had no intentions to go in that direction, but sometimes things start shaping and forming with results that you couldn't really predict.

"Dancer" female nude figure in motion study pastel drawing/painting

A more dynamic drawing with pastel suggesting body movement, bold gestures were placed where needed, even heavy pastel impasto at certain places, that adds diversity and dimension to the two dimensional surface, its like a 'dance' that happens on the paper.
