I like the fluidity of the vine charcoal and how it responds on the paper, the charcoal pencils I use mostly to reinforce the darks and strengthen the drawing, other artists and art students have told me that they find the vine charcoal 'intimidating', tools are just a matter of personal preference, use whatever works for you the best.
