"Midnight" 8x10 Female portrait frontal view charcoal drawing on paper

When I work on white paper I use only various forms of charcoal, for the highlights I use the kneaded eraser to get the whitest whites from the actual paper, the blender, which is also made of paper I use for mid values and transitions, I try to establish the full value range as soon as possible but that doesn't always happen that quickly and sometimes only in the end you'll see what needs to be added or taken out to complete the piece.

That's very good advice, establishing all the values as quickly as possible. I tend to avoid the darkest darks until I'm absolutely sure that everything is in place. But that slows me down quite a bit. This is a beautiful drawing!
