Haven (male nude study)

SOLD
8.5" x 9.5" Pastel and Charcoal on paper

Normally I would post this pastel on my Painting a day blog but since I've posted a still life painting there today I'm gonna display this one here, even though it's more painterly and it has more color then a drawing.
I've placed the figure all the way in the left corner on purpose to create more tension and drama between the nude and the negative space in the background.

Study for "Anticipation"

SOLD
6" x 8" Charcoal on paper

This was a combination of line work (I love the possibilities that you can get out of a simple line)and light and dark shading, the highlights were done with white chalk, I add this touches in the end usually or sometimes even in the beginning stage so I can see the right values right away, I guess the subject dictates the approach also.

Afternoon (reclining male nude)

SOLD
6.5" x 8.5" Pastel and Charcoal on paper

This was an interesting composition with the figure in foreshortening, I think it adds more dynamics to the drawing by changing the angle of perspective and how the light falls on the figure.I usually plan the proportions ahead before doing any shading or details when working on smaller pieces like this so I don't need to make any major corrections to the basics later on.
