"Violet dress" female nude pastel drawing/painting - Art artists

6" x 9" pastel on paper

I used a bunch of different pastels in this one and it came out as a nice color study, some of the hard and soft pastels don't really blend that well but if you spray the surface you can continue working on it since after awhile the paper gets filled and it doesn't take any more pigments/pastels, especially since I use the smooth side of the paper not the one with a tooth.

"Searching" male nude study charcoal drawing

7" x 8.5" charcoal on paper

It's really intriguing how a certain pose can generate more movement then others, this was a more dynamic one and I used much stronger linework to indicate the more important parts in the drawing, at the same time the values are crucial and I want the drawing to 'read' properly.

"Undressing female nude" charcoal drawing

The model caught in between poses, while getting ready for a long pose, there's more spontaneity in these transitory poses since they appear to be caught in the moment and haven't been really set up, they are just natural and more intimate.

"Portrait of a man" charcoal drawing on paper by Gallery artist

I started this drawing with some light vine charcoal since its great for getting the general outlines and all the big shapes that are important after that I had to put the major darks with a 6B charcoal pencil so I can judge the rest of the values on the face correctly.

Male nude (back study) original charcoal drawing

7" x 8.5" charcoal on paper

Haven't posted any male nude studies lately so that's why I did this drawing, there's an obvious difference when rendering the female body and the softness of its curves and the rigidity of the male body which sometimes can be compared to a landscape with harsh mountains.

Study for "High expectation" female nude charcoal drawing

This is a study that I did for one of my smaller paintings.

"African woman" female portrait charcoal drawing

Since I haven't drawn many ethnic portraits I decided to have my take on this, it's really interesting to see how the facial proportions are different with each race, plus in this case the dark tone of the paper that matches the skin tone really made it easier for me to get that middle value for free!, yes without even drawing it, sometimes you get lucky and your job gets less difficult, in rare cases of course.
